Minnesota's 1st Aerobatic Race, The Blue Sky Challenge Cup© presented by Scheyden Eyewear, is a progressive new aerobatic air race showcased at the Faribault Airfest & Balloon Rally 2009. For detailed information on Aerobatic Racing and the ARC Series Race events, go to WWW.ACRORACING.ORG.
Invited participants include world class aerobatic pilots and their aircraft from the exciting theater of Air Shows and Competition. Featured pilots compete in front of event spectators by performing a sequence of precision aerobatic maneuvers side-by-side while timed under the meticulous eye of a U. S. National Aerobatic Judge. The first pilot to successfully complete these dynamic set of maneuvers wins the race.
The competition race routine consists of a series of nine maneuvers that will be flown by two pilots at the same time. The Air Show Narrator will explain the figures and the pilot's winning strategies as they are being performed. Every individual watching will actually know the names of each maneuver and exactly what is happening during the routine from the pilot’s perspective.
Pilots must complete each figure quickly but successfully in order to avoid penalties that will degrade their final score, and ultimately, their chances of winning the event. Prior to the final flights, Air Show spectators can choose who they believe will be the winning pilot by placing a Scheyden promo card under their favorite pilot at the Scheyden event booth. The victorious pilot will win the Blue Sky Challenge Cup© trophy along with a lucky spectator for the Grand Prize from Scheyden. Prizes to spectators will also be given for the 2nd & 3rd place pilots as well.
Just remember to drop your name into the bin under the pilot you believe will win.
The Blue Sky Challenge Cup© Aerobatic Race is a fun and exciting way for the Airfest spectators to directly interact with the show by gaining more insight on the thrill and exhilaration of aerobatic flight. By choosing a performer to win, with the potential for spectator prizes, the event motivates individuals to cheer for their pilots with enthusiasm and a degree of vested interest.
